Natural zinc

Appearance
The natural colour of zinc is light metallic silver. Exposed to the elements, this colour loses its shine gradually whilst darkening slightly over time to finish in a bluish-grey colour. This is due to the formation of a fine but highly adhesive layer of zinc carbonate - its patina.
This patina develops more slowly on facades than on roofs, taking approximately 2 years longer to reach its mature state on a facade than on a roof. For this reason, zinc in its natural state is usually more limited to roofs than facades (where pre-patinated zinc is normally used). However, installed on the roof, facade or sloped areas, the natural patinating process assures a uniform final finish even when covering complex shapes.

It is important to be aware of the colours of these materials when selecting other materials and finishes / colours (stone, lacquered woodwork, etc.) for the work so we recommend that you contact us to request new samples or even better, request a visit from our technical consultant so you can be shown new samples and samples that have been aged by exposure for these materials.
For more information on the different finishes available in zinc, refer to the other files on our metals.
